I swear one day I'm going to write a book about this subject. It seems I have come across so many designers over the years that don't share my perspective of the subject. Graphic Design is something I have always been drawn to, even as a child, so one could understand that my passion for it is overly strong.

I title this the “Philosophy of Design” because it involves my own personal viewpoint that design is more than a field of study, a color and picture, or even the way text is formed. It's a deeper understanding that I search for. A profound understanding.

design noun:

  1. A a particular purpose held in view by an individual or group designs for his son
    • b : deliberate purposive planning design
  2. A mental project or scheme in which means to an end are laid down
  3. A deliberate undercover project or scheme : plot
    • b plural : aggressive or evil intent —used with on or against designs on the money
  4. A preliminary sketch or outline showing the main features of something to be executed design for the new stadium
  5. An underlying scheme that governs functioning, developing, or unfolding : pattern, motif design of the epic
    • b : a plan or protocol for carrying out or accomplishing something (as a scientific experiment); also : the process of preparing this
  6. The arrangement of elements or details in a product or work of art
  7. A decorative pattern design
  8. The creative art of executing aesthetic or functional designs

Webster's dictionary gives the definition that design is a planned out way of creating a subject. “A planned act of creation” if you will. Everything our eyes see in that case is a “design” in some form or another. The computer screen you are staring at, the typeface that you are reading, and even the chair you are sitting in. In fact, if you are religious person then everything you see period (people, humans, culture, life, etc.) is a form of design. In fact just seeing at all for that matter. That is if of course you believe in the ultimate “creator” or as I would say the ultimate “designer.” Alright I'll try not to ramble on a tangent of religion, but do you see my perspective?

Everything I have ever seen in my entire life has been planned out by another person, to subconsciously deliver a thought into my brain. “Think this,” “Buy me,” “Go here,” “Do this.”

A life we all live where we do whatever it takes to manipulate the mass public to make us more successful as individuals.
