Search Engine Optimization - also known as SEO by website designers and Internet marketing specialists is what helps your business become ranked on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. But how does a business owner shop for these services? RPJVYFGEN76C

Search Engine Optimization has evolved from being simply about keywords and special HTML tags (called "meta tags") to a complex system based off of the quality of how your website was built and how important search engines think your website is in relation to specific search terms people are looking for.

On Page Optimization is a term used to determine how well your website was built. Google's webmaster guidelines constantly stresses the word "quality" when making suggestions to web developers. Quality of your content, how fast your website pages load, and how relevant your pages are to the topics being discussed, the more "points" or votes your webpage will get for specific keywords and keyword phrases by search engines. However, this is only 1/2 of the battle for success. On page optimization is VERY important but it's not enough to take authority from your competition.

Off Page Optimization is a term used to determine how important your website page is in relation to other websites. A link on another website that points to your website can be considered as a vote. These so-called votes are known as backlinks. When search engines compare results for competing keyword phrases, the website with quality on page optimization and the most "votes" will be at the top of the list. Having a lot of backlinks is good, but not all links are the same. A website about pets will not get much value in a vote from a website about alcoholic beverages but will get more value from a website about dogs or cats. Once again, it's all about quality versus quantity.

What to look for when shopping for SEO?

First and foremost, NEVER just take someone's word for it. Web designers will say they know SEO because they don't want to lose your business and who can blame them? Just like anyone else, they are trying to make a living. However, if you are going to spend good money on marketing your website - the money you spend should create a return on your investment.

Quality tips on what to look for are listed below:

  • Get actual analytics of other client's traffic. Web analytics offer hard data that isn't easy to fake. On the flip side, take into consideration the type of industry they are in. Some industries are more searched for than others. Website traffic + website rankings make a perfect combination.
  • Make sure you get reports on your SEO campaign. Reports will show just how much your website has improved since starting the campaign. It's easy to check your website rankings yourself, but it's even easier to follow when someone is tracking it for you.
  • Have your SEO Expert explain their process to you. Sometimes inexperienced Internet marketing specialists will try to explain things they really don't have a clue on. If you have been doing business a long time, you can usually tell when someone is giving you a line of B.S. (Bad SEO)
  • Where does the company you are hiring rank? If someone claims to be an SEO expert, more than likely, they are going to rank well on their own website ( Google this: "Advertising Agency The Woodlands" ). If they don't, there shouldn't be any excuses. Top 5 rankings are good. Top 3 are even better.
  • Research what you don't know. Anyone can Google information on search engine optmization. There are a lot of free articles out there that explain how SEO works (and how it doesn't). Make sure someone explains the whole process to you and takes their time doing so.
Following these simple steps may sound like common sense, but in reality, many clients unfamiliar with how SEO works fall into the trap of making wrong decisions. Overall, taking time to do some simple research and making at least 3 interviews with 3 separate companies will help you with your decision making process!
